Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area

The stunning Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in coastal Douglas County blends a rare combination of ocean, forest, rivers, lakes, and desert-like landscapes all into one location. The 40-mile-long dunes spread inland about 2.5 miles and tower as high as 500 feet above sea level in some spots, making them the largest coastal dune system in North America. A visit to Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area provides endless opportunities to see diverse wildlife, delicate ecosystems, and embark on unique outdoor adventures like sandboarding and ATV rides. It's a place so special that it inspired Frank Herbert's classic science-fiction "Dune" book series, which has been turned into major Hollywood blockbusters.
